  • The Wellington Foundation prides itself on the quality of its partners. We value long-lasting relationships with organizations and their leaders. While we are always interested in learning more about nonprofits that may be a good fit and establishing new relationships, our application is invitation- only. We conduct one grant cycle per year at the conclusion of the calendar year. Below is a sample grant application timeline.  

    ​

    September: Potential grantees are invited to apply. 

    October: Potential grantees have the opportunity to request feedback prior to their submission. 

    November: Grant applications due. 

    December: Grantees notified of award amounts. 

    By December 31st: Funds distributed. 

    ​

    Returning grantees will be asked to submit a new application each grant cycle and report how the previous year's funds were used.

  • Granting Philosophy:

    • We only fund organizations with 501(c)(3) tax exempt status. 

    • We support programs and organizations that provide high-quality: educational programs and/or services to vulnerable children (K-12) in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. 

    • We prefer not to be the sole or majority funder for an organization. 

    • We require a site visit before considering an organization's application. 

    • We understand that organizations and projects often require multiple years of support to see results. However, at this time, we are not considering multi-year grants. 

    • We do not fund higher education organizations (including universities). 

    • We do not fund private elementary or secondary schools.
